Clay was a member of the USC Marching Band and th "Irish Reds" Pep Band while a student at the University. He cut his teeth and developed his chops playing jazz and big band music, but always had a love for R&B. He is a key part of the sound that makes up the Palmetto Groove Party Band. Playing the music he loves and fronting the band with his fellow cohorts in the Groove Horns, you will surely be entertained as much as his neighbors who get private concerts via his practice room window until midnight (sorry).
Clay's musical infuences include Doc Severinsen, Harry James and Chicago trumpeter Lee Loughnane. He plays a Schilke Bb Trumpet, a Yamaha Flugelhorn, and a Severinsen/Destino C Trumpet presented to him by the man himself. He loves to tell the story -just ask him!
